We are learning about mummification!

9th Nov 2021

Over the past few weeks, we have been learning all about how and why the Ancient Egyptians mummified people. This week we became Ancient Egyptian embalmers and we recreated the mummification process using a tomato.

In order to mummify the tomato, we had to wash, scoop out the seeds and cover the tomato in our own natron mixture (salt and baking soda!). We then put our tomatoes in their 'cup coffins'. We also have a 'control' tomato which we didn't fill with salt/baking powder. After 5 days, we will compare the control tomato to our mummified tomato. We can't wait to see what happens.
