The Big Walk and Wheel is the UK’s biggest inter-school walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling challenge! Our school is taking part to encourage more journeys to school by foot or on wheels.
Active travel, such as cycling, walking and scooting to and from school, has a range of benefits including:
- improving health through physical activity;
- promoting independence;
- improving safety awareness;
- benefiting the environment;
- reducing the number of cars around the school gates, making our school safer for everyone.
We understand cycling or walking to school is not easy for every family. On Wednesday 18th March 2026, we encourage everyone (pupils, families and staff) to travel actively to school i.e. Walk, Cycle or Scoot, or at least park up and travel some of the way actively.
For the second time this school year, children are invited to ditch the school uniform and dress as brightly as possible to reinforce the Road Safety message of, ‘Be Bright, Be Seen’. Parents can help by accompanying their children to and from school and ensuring children are wearing helmets and bright clothes to help them be seen by other road users.
We look forward to seeing more children and parents/guardians cycling, walking and scooting to school and hope you will join in on our launch day, Wednesday 18th March 2026.
